When my children were young, I used to take them to Maddermarket Theatre where we thoroughly enjoy the little magical experiences together at Christmas time. So I wanted to draw something that reminded me of it. Early this year I've found this captivating old photograph of Pottergate 7 Church House East side, taken by George Plunkett in 1935. The little alley between the church and the old Tudor building shown in the photo is still the access path to Maddermarket Theatrethese days. I fell in love with this lamp post (in the photo below) which didnt endure time and so incorporated it into this art work. There are also other details of the past that Ive added in this print: the vague figures of four statues that used to perch on top of St John Madder Market churchs tower and the Twelfth Night programme, which was the actual show at Madder Market in December 1940.
