Williamsonia is an extinct genus of seed plants belonging to the order Bennettitales (or Cycadeoidales). These plants flourished during the Mesozoic Eraspanning from the Triassic through the Cretaceous periodand formed a prominent part of the vegetation alongside dinosaurs. The most distinctive feature of Williamsonia and its close relatives was their complex reproductive structures, often referred to as flower-like strobili. Instead of simple cones like modern conifers or cycads, Williamsonia produced specialized reproductive organs surrounded by a ring of protective, protective-scale bracts, giving them an appearance reminiscent of a primitive flower.
